Cuffed? the Film
I just became aware of this group called Little Birdie Films who have set up a Kickstarter fund to make a film called “Cuffed?”, about beating addiction in America and need support, to fund it. I had a look at their blog, and they seem to be getting things done http://cuffedthefilm.tumblr.com . I think that people are slowly waking up to the fact that many of the old methods that have been used to deal with addiction are not motivating people to change, but there is a lot of work to do to get the word out about alternatives. I am glad people are taking the time to make these films that can hopefully help so many people who have been put off getting treatment, or who have not heard of solutions that could help them.
Trailer for film Cuffed?
Here is a link to the Kickstarter project https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2049207119/cuffed It gives a good explanation of what the film is about and why they are attempting to make it. I am glad they are getting their publicity working well at this early stage, and look a professional outfit!
Here is a section from their site:
CUFFED? is a film that was born out of the necessity for information. We cannot talk about CUFFED? without mentioning the director and creator, Angelica Hester. At a young age Angelica struggled to understand why addiction was consuming her father. She couldn’t understand why he was regarded by society as a bad person, because to Angelica he was a loving father. She was not allowed to talk about the problem with the family or others, thus creating shame. Because of that shame she couldn’t ask crucial questions and the information that she needed never became available. She has searched her entire adult life for answers and only found stigma and confusion. She observed that many people were unwilling to talk about personal struggles out of fear of how they would be perceived.
After much reflection and research, Angelica is ready to tell her story alongside other individuals who have gone through similar grueling experiences with addiction. Their questions and journeys open a dialog that will hopefully inspire others to come out of the shadows and start to heal.
CUFFED? follows the lives of Amir, Daniel, Bart, Tonya, and Gary, all people who have been irreversibly affected by addiction. Their stories are accompanied by expert commentary from highly regarded doctors, therapists, and government officials who have dedicated their lives to the study and treatment of this disease. CUFFED? highlights the arguments of both pro- and anti-Methadone groups in order to investigate the administration, use and misuse of Methadone. In addition to the discussion of current methods of treatment, CUFFED? also brings to light different programs in development to combat addiction without pharmaceutical substitutes. The effectiveness of one-on-one counseling, meditation, 12-step, and yoga are all explored.
We invite you to take this journey with us as we find better ways to talk about and combat addiction. Lets make a difference!
THIS FILM SHOULD BE MADE SO…
1. Addiction may be better understood, and not stigmatized.
2. Awareness will be increased toward this growing issue in America. Change will not happen until there is education on the subject.
3. A variety of alternative recovery options will be presented to the public in order to empower them to take control of their own path toward recovery.
We have been filming CUFFED? for the past year and a half, paying all the expenses out of pocket. Since we started filming, this project has grown immensely. We are grateful to have neuroscientists, naturopathic doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and government officials all across the U.S. who are eager to contribute to this film. We have filmed with a few already, but we need your help to set up shoots with more. We also have to travel back for followup shoots with each of the individual addiction stories. That is why we have come to Kickstarter to raise the funds to complete production of this film.
